Rock Samphire

Rock Samphire -"Crithmum maritimum" growing on a vertical rockface on Damehole Point.
An evergreen sea cliff plant with greyish , succulent leaves and pale greenish - yellow flat topped flowers .
Has an unpleasant smell - a pungent, sulphurous aroma and strange flavour - very carrotty .
Culinary Use :-
The side branches of fresh green growth should snap off easily by hand / a little too powerful for salads when raw , better when boiled or steamed for about ten minutes / popular as a pickled vegetable in the 16th and 17th centuries.
