From the beach at Polgwidden Cove on the 1st June 1944 , 7500 men from the 29th USA Infantry Division left on Navy Ships for the D Day Landings on Omaha Beach , Normandy.
The troops left by LST'S - Large flat bottomed ships 328 ft long , 50 ft wide , speed 12knots , with a crew of over 100 , able to take troops , tanks , supporting equipment directly on to beaches.
