Kynance Gate

Clustered around a rocky Serpentine outcrop are the remains of a prehistoric settlement.
First occupied in the Bronze Age (1200 - 1000/600 BC).
The site was occupied again in the Iron Age (500BC-100AD).
This later settlement consists of a group of 9 stone walled round houses linked by low walls ,
together with another group of 5 houses further to the north.
The settlement may have only been used during the summer months when the farmers brought their animals to the area for grazing .
Excavated 1953-64. Becoming overgrown with scrub !!
